Eminent lecturer, researcher and trainer, Dr Chris Wooldridge will chair the 2024 GreenPort Congress and Cruise.
Dr Wooldridge is currently senior trainer for EcoSLC and Joint Science Coordinator for EcoPorts, and actively involved in research and conference programmes.
He has delivered academic modules and industrial training courses on Environmental Management in all the maritime states of Europe, as well as in Colombia, Taiwan, Ivory Coast, Vietnam, Thailand, Laos, Cambodia, Egypt, India, Malaysia, and Kuwait.
He was formerly Director of Studies, Marine Geography in the School of Earth and Ocean Sciences, Cardiff University, UK. Whilst there he was one of the original researchers who, along port sector colleagues, other academics, and his research students, was involved in the development of the EcoPorts tools and its associated International Quality Standard of Environmental Management System, EcoPorts PERS.
On being appointed Chair for the 2024 event Dr Wooldridge said, “Delivering the environmental imperatives of compliance, protection and sustainability at a time of such global, political, and social change presents many challenges to the port sector and its stakeholders. GreenPort Congress and Cruise, as ever, provides the opportunity for the exchange of knowledge and experience between colleagues as a positive step to identifying practicable and effective response options.
As a matter of interest, it is now nearly 110 years since the social science concept of ‘Think globally, act locally’ was first expressed, but I would suggest that it has never been more timely or topical…”
