Despite a four-month export slowdown in late 2024, China’s ports have continued growing, handling 186.4 million TEU in the first ten months of 2024—an 8.7% increase from 2023. As growth is expected to slow in 2025, China is accelerating port automation to enhance efficiency. With 18 automated terminals operating and 27 more in development, ports like Tianjin and Nansha are integrating AI, 5G, and smart logistics to reduce costs, improve productivity, and maintain their global competitiveness.
