The three sites managed by the Port Authority of Valencia handled 4,832,156 teu in 2017, 2.11% more than in 2016.
Traffic for Valencia, Sagunto and Gandia combined totalled 73.56m tonnes, with foreign trade of full containers increasing by 6.17%. Specifically, exports advanced 5.76%, with 903,920 teu; while imports grew by 6.74% to 659,883 teu.
The transit of full containers increased 4.83% with a total of 2,205,493 teu, while empty containers decreased by 8%. The traffic of containers moved by rail has also increased by 13.15% this year.
General cargo
The import-export of general cargo has grown by 8.94% to 23,402,919t. In particular, exports grew by 8.55% to 14,956,494t, due to good records from countries such as Italy, which advanced 21.42%; the US, which rose 18.88%; and Morocco, which increased 2.33%.
Imports were up 9.64% to 8,446,425t. This growth is mainly based on the behaviour of countries such as China (+14.36%), Italy (+0.72%), France (+12.88%), the US (+7.85%); and Turkey (+ 33.23%).
Containerised general cargo was up 3.91% at the end of 2017, with total traffic of 55,978,616t. This growth is motivated by construction materials, chemical products, wines, drinks, alcohols and derivatives, and other goods.
Steel impact
Conventional general cargo grew 9.27%. In total, during 2017, 11,788,513t of this type of goods have been handled. This increase is mainly due to the growth of steel products and cars and their parts.
Liquid bulk has decreased 15.77% to 3,203,487t, due to the decrease in natural gas traffic.
Solid bulk finished the year with a total traffic of 2,278,857t and a decrease of 9.98%, due to a decline in cement and clinker.
