Recycling facility for Danish port

The new activities are expected to create around 200 jobs in the port, and the agreement represents an important building block in the port’s DKK 571m (US$86m) future expansion strategy.

“One of the port’s focus areas is the environment and recovery industry; and for a long time, we have been looking for a well-established company with experience within offshore oil and gas to set up operations in Frederikshavn,” said Mikkel Seedorff Sørensen, managing director of the port. “This partner has now been found in Modern American Recycling Services.”

Modern American Recycling Services mainly operates within the scrapping and recycling of oil platforms and ships, particularly in the Gulf of Mexico, where platform scrapping has been in operation for a number of years.

“It is a great pleasure to have companies from abroad show an interest in Frederikshavn’s forthcoming port extension. Modern American Recycling Services’ establishment in Frederikshavn sends a fine signal to the surrounding world, indicating the excellent potential for setting up shop here – for Danish as for foreign businesses,” added Brigit Hansen, Frederikshavn’s mayor.

The facility is expected to be set up by 2017.
