Port of Hualien Waves Dockage Fees for International Cruise Ships to Fuel Post-Quake Tourism

Port of Hualien, TIPC has in recent years regularly offered multiple incentives to increase international cruise ship traffic to the port.

Incentives on offer for the 2024 cruise season include a full waiver of dockage fees and 30% discount on passenger service fees. Also, passenger service fees are being completely waived for cruise ships upon their third call at Port of Hualien during the year. Furthermore, to stimulate tourism and economic activity in the Hualien area following the 7.2 magnitude earthquake that struck Taroko National Park on April 3rd of this year (2024), the port has announced a full waiver of both passenger service fees (regardless of number of calls) and cleaning and maintenance fees for international cruise ship calls made from April 25th through December 31st, 2024.

The 13 international cruise ship calls currently scheduled at Port of Hualien in 2024 are expected to bring 31,200 overseas visitors to Hualien. As of March 21st, four calls with a total of 11,770 international passengers have already been made.

The April 3rd earthquake caused no structural damage to port wharves, with all able to continue normal operations. In addition, international cruise ship handling facilities at the port continue functioning normally, with related wharves and passenger clearance and service facilities ready and able to continue providing world-class service.
