Coastlink is a neutral pan-European network dedicated to the promotion of short sea and feeder shipping, and the intermodal transport networks through the ports that support the sector. It is a place for industry professionals to meet and discuss future innovation, economic and environmental considerations – and develop partnerships that will help build a sustainable future. Port of Antwerp-Bruges launches electric tugs
A significant milestone in the Port of Antwerp-Bruges’s sustainability efforts was achieved with the arrival of six energy-efficient tugboats, including the groundbreaking Volta 1, Europe’s first fully electric reversed stern drive tugboat
Built by Damen, the Volta 1 showcases the port’s commitment to achieving climate neutrality by 2050, offering a bollard pull of 70 tonnes and fully emission-free operations.
Alongside the Volta 1, five new diesel-powered tugboats also joined the fleet.
