Port of Tilbury unveils expansion plans

The port is making strides with a 40.5 ha site to the east of its existing operations at Tilbury 2, earmarked for a major expansion to meet growing market demands.

“We were pleased to welcome the minister to the port today to brief him on our future expansion plans and the offshore renewables opportunities on the horizon,” said Stuart Wallace, chief executive of Forth Ports.

“The success and growth of the Port of Tilbury is intertwined with the growth of the green circular, South East and Greater London economies.

The new development, named Tilbury 3, will bolster port-related activities in response to key sectors, including renewables, recycling and logistics, and create skilled, local jobs.

A key part of the expansion is located within the Thames Freeport tax site land area, allowing the port to take advantage of the economic benefits and investment opportunities available in the region.

During the visit, Mike Kane met several apprentices and graduates from the Port of Tilbury, gaining insight into the vital skills and training programmes offered through the Forth Ports Group.

The group toured the port’s state-of-the-art training simulator suite, which provides hands-on learning opportunities for the next generation of port workers.

“It was fantastic to visit the Port of Tilbury today to see the sheer extent of their operations and to meet with their hardworking apprentices and graduate students,” said Mike Kane.

“I very much welcome their expansion plans for Tilbury 3, which will help strengthen trade links with other countries, boost economic growth and support the skills and jobs needed for the future.”
