Intermodal facility to boost Alabama freight

The Alabama Port Authority, in partnership with CSX, has held a groundbreaking ceremony for the Montgomery Intermodal Container Transfer Facility

Expected to be operational in 2027, this new facility is set to boost freight mobility and drive economic growth across the region, significantly enhancing Alabama’s position in global trade.

Located on a 272 acre (110 hectare) site with direct access to Interstate 85 and Highway 31, the ICTF will have a throughput capacity of 60,000 teu per year, or roughly 30,000 shipping containers.
