UAE and China strengthen ties

The partnership hopes to encourage shipping companies to establish more routes between the two ports and cooperate in slot exchanges and vessel space purchase to enhance connectivity and efficiency.

China is the United Arab Emirates largest trading partner. “This strategic collaboration aligns with our vision of expanding our presence in China and working with likeminded partners to strengthen trade routes and accelerate the green energy transition,” said Abdulla Bin Damithan, chief executive and managing director of DP World.

“We are committed to supporting the Belt and Road Initiative through this and other ventures.”

As part of the deal, the companies say they are committed to establishing a green shipping corridor and building low-carbon ports, which promote shore based power and greener fuels such as LNG and green methanol.

The agreement will also explore logistic opportunities in Jebel Ali Free Zone and Zhejiang Free Trade Zone, and support automobile logistics by capitalising on Dubai as a regional transit hub and China as a major exporter of automotives.

“Our partnership with DP World will further strengthen China’s position as a major player in global trade, creating extensive opportunities for Chinese businesses to access customers across the Middle East, Asia, Europe and Africa,” said Tao ChengBo, chair of Zhejiang Seaport Group and Ningbo-Zhoushan Port Group.
