Huge rail upgrade begins at Long Beach

Work has begun on ‘America’s Green Gateway’ – a significant upgrade to facilities which will triple rail cargo capacity at the Port of Long Beach in California

Costing US$1.567 billion and scheduled to complete by 2032, the Pier B On-Dock Rail Support Facility project will double the footprint of the existing rail yard from 82 to 171 acres (33 to 69 hectares).

The upgrade will more than triple the port’s capacity for on-dock rail to 4.7 million teu per year, reducing emissions at the port and surrounding area.
