Martin Tiling, Head of Shore Power, igus GmbH will present on ‘How to Solve the Connection Dilemma’ – Best Practices from Port of Hamburg becoming Europe’s Shore Power Pioneer.
This presentation will explore how Hamburg is leading Europe in providing shore power for ships, starting with cruise ships and now extending to cargo ships. Hamburg is the first European port to offer shore power for both container and cruise ships and the recent use of shore power by the “Vasco de Gama” container ship at the Container Terminal Hamburg (CTH) will also be discussed.
By 2025, all major terminals in the port will have shore power connections, significantly reducing CO2 and pollutant emissions. The terminal offers up to 7.5 megawatts per connection, with movable sockets to accommodate different ship sizes. This setup, using the igus Mobile Shore Power Outlet, sources electricity from the public grid, highlighting both technical and ecological benefits.
