Further expansion for Ecotank

As described in the May/June 2009 GreenPort, Ecotanks are mainly used as a clean and effective method to dispose of waste from pleasure craft in busy marinas. However, last August one of these vessels successfully recovered 3000 litres of spilled oil when a boat ran aground off the Iles de Lérins and two similar oil spillage incidents were dealt with last year.

These compact craft, 6.5m long and with a beam of 2.48m, have an on-board pumping system and up to 6.5t of waste can be collected when all the tanks are empty. These vessels can also be equipped with a fire hose capable of delivering up to 500 litres/min.

The onboard sewage water treatment system processes grey and black waters, discharging the recycled clean water back into the sea.

Thanks to their manoeuvrability and shallow draught, the Ecotanks can easily be positioned alongside moored vessels, instead of these vessels having to wait their turn to dock with shore-based waste pumping systems.

Until recently Ecotank barges were mainly deployed on the French Riviera but this year a new vessels was put into service at Kalibia la Blanche, Tunisia. In 2011 the Ecotank company which is located at Vallauris, France, plans to promote sales of its barges to the principal pleasure craft marinas in Florida.
