Construction is progressing rapidly on the Sofia offshore wind farm, set to become one of the world’s largest, with the Port of Tyne playing a key role in its development

Covering an area roughly the size of the Isle of Man (593 km²), Sofia is expected to provide electricity for 1.2 million UK homes, reinforcing England’s north-east as a leader in offshore wind energy.

This significant project, led by Van Oord, has already attracted £3 billion in investment and created numerous jobs, both directly and indirectly.
