Bilbao’s multi-million port electrification project

The Council of Ministers has approved a €55.4 million investment to electrify the Port of Bilbao’s docks, enhancing its port infrastructure to reduce emissions.

This funding, proposed by the Ministry of Transport and Sustainable Mobility, supports the BilbOPS project, which aims to cut port emissions and noise by enabling ships to connect to onshore power supply while at berth.

This initiative aligns with the Bilbao Port Authority’s commitment to achieving carbon neutrality by 2050.
