Busan puts environment first

In all, 94 of the 161 rubber-tyred gantry cranes in North Port are set to undergo the change at an estimated cost of Won300m ($304,000) per crane. The change is expected to save up to Won190m ($193,000) per crane per year. The move is supported by a pilot operation with 14 cranes which demonstrated that fuel costs per crane amounted to Won220m ($223,000) against electricity costs of Won24m ($24,000). Added to which, the failure rate of electric cranes dropped by 50%.

BPA is also introducing tandem cranes able to handle two feu containers at the same time at Busan New Port, boosting handling capacity by 20%.
